Grundfos makes $100K donation to Genuine Cup

global pump manufacturer steps off the factory floor and into the community, we tend to pay close attention — not because of the headline dollar figure, but because it tells us something about the culture behind the hardware we spec every day. As reported by the Katy Times, Grundfos Americas has committed $100,000 to the Genuine Cup, a global soccer tournament celebrating inclusion for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism, hosted this year at Rice University in Houston from July 27 through August 1.

On the ground in Brookshire

On July 21, the company's internal "Team Bigheart" social giving committee presented the grant to Genuine Cup founder Ignacio Torres and company director Bjorn Thomson right at the Grundfos campus at 902 Koomey Road in Brookshire — the same site that houses the manufacturer's U.S. headquarters. If you've ever toured a pump plant, you know that the relationship between a company and its host town is part of the spec sheet, whether anyone puts it in writing or not. The Genuine Cup, founded in 2024, brings together more than 1,000 athletes across 54 teams from 50 countries, and Grundfos employees will be volunteering at this year's matches on top of writing the check.

Why it matters for the people behind the pumps

The committee began work on the grant back in February, after learning about the event through Goya Foods Public Relations Manager Mayte Weitzman, according to the Katy Times. Every 90 days, the Grundfos Foundation in Denmark reviews applications from around the world and picks the recipients — a rhythm that, on the ground, mirrors how disciplined service design listens before it commits. At the ceremony, Country President USA Ansell Sims reminded attendees that over 400 million people still lack access to safe water worldwide, quietly tying the local soccer pitch back to the company's broader mission of moving water where it needs to go.

What to track from here

For those of us evaluating Grundfos as a supplier, employer, or community neighbor, the bigger signal isn't the trophy — it's the cadence. Team Bigheart is already lining up a turkey drive for what employee Jordan Meyer described as a "very big food desert" in Brookshire, a December toy drive, and the annual "Walk for Water" in October, where every office worldwide walks more than three miles to replicate carrying water from a remote source. If you're sizing up a pump partner, it's worth knowing that the company building your circulators is also the one showing up for the shift that starts before and after the shift itself.
